Former Physician Accused of Sexual Assault Allegations Against Thirty-Eight Individuals in His Care

Prosecutors have announced that a former physician stands accused of performing sexual assaults against thirty-eight victims who were patients.

Details of the Serious Allegations

Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham has been charged with numerous sexual offences – including some against children younger than 13 – between 2017 and 2021.

A deputy chief prosecutor said, “Our prosecutors have worked at length to support a detailed and complex police inquiry, meticulously examining the evidence to establish that there is sufficient evidence to proceed to trial and that it is in the interest of justice.”

The Police Inquiry

These allegations come after what investigators described as a “complex investigation” into alleged sexual offences at two hospitals: a hospital in Stoke-on-Trent and Russells Hall hospital.

Spencer is due to appear at the local magistrates' court on 20 January.

List of Charges

The charging documents said the forty-five charges include:

  • 15 counts of sexual assault.
  • Seventeen counts of assault by penetration.
  • 9 counts of sexual assault of a child under 13.
  • Three counts of penetrative assault on a child under thirteen.
  • 1 count of attempting to assault by penetration.

Police have asked anyone with concerns to get in touch with the investigating team.
