Iran Claims Assault on US Base in the Kingdom of Bahrain, Amid Regional Counterattacks.

Iranian forces say they have struck a American military facility in Bahrain, as Iran launched strikes throughout the Middle East in retaliation for a large-scale and continuing assault targeting the nation by the US and Israel.

Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an zone near the headquarters of the American Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The scope of any impact is unclear and the United States has remained silent.

Missile Defenses Activated

Elsewhere across the region, the UAE, the State of Qatar and the State of Kuwait - all home to American military installations - stated they have shot down incoming projectiles in their airspace.

In Doha, Qatar's defence ministry announced it had intercepted several missiles seemingly aimed at the Al Udeid Air Base, the biggest US military installation in the Middle East.

Iran's Declared Retaliation

Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) declared it was attacking US bases and assets as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the attack on Iran initiated by the US and Israel on Saturday morning.

That preceding assault - initiated at around 06:15 GMT - has so far focused on sites linked to the Tehran's leadership, with US President Donald Trump encouraging the Iranian people to rise up against the government.

Regional Fallout

In the State of Israel, air raid sirens sounded across the country after the Israeli military reported it had identified an barrage of missiles from Iran.

The Ministry of Defence of the United Arab Emirates said in a statement that the nation has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"Emirati air defenses dealt with the missiles with high efficiency and destroyed a series of missiles," it added.

Officials reported missile fragments landed in a neighborhood in Abu Dhabi, causing some property damage and killing a civilian.

The United States Air Force operates from the Al Dhafra base, south of the Emirati capital, along with the Emirati Air Force.
