Jurgen Klopp, who left Liverpool in 2024, remarked that returning someday is an option. Klopp, post a game-changing near-decade reign featuring Champions League success and the Reds’ first league title in 30 years, currently occupies positions overseeing worldwide football for Red Bull and providing guidance to Germany's league body.
The club claimed the Premier League in the previous campaign, yet numerous supporters who adore the manager would embrace the notion that he may eventually return. During an extensive chat, he told Steven Bartlett: “I said I will never coach any other side on English soil. So that means should it be the Reds...absolutely. It's plausible.”
“At 58 years old, that means the choice could be mine in a few years, it's uncertain. Do I have to make the decision today? If so, I wouldn't return. But thank God, no such pressure exists. I'll simply watch how things unfold.”
Questioned regarding which situations would have to unfold to bring him back to management, Klopp admitted he isn't eager to such a return. “I don’t even know exactly, I enjoy my current role,” he said. “I don't crave being a coach; I don’t miss standing under bad weather for two-and-a-half or three hours; I don’t miss going to interviews four times, three times a week or doing numerous chats each week.
“I don’t miss the dressing room per se, but sitting in a restaurant with the players talking freely, that’s nice. With many victories so there was often positive atmosphere in the building. I can still hear Van Dijk's laughter ringing in my ears for example.”
He commended for his successor, acknowledging his role for the tweaks that won the league in the previous season. Liverpool have lost four consecutive matches in every contest post heavy investment, though he denied the notion that it might signal the start of a downward turn.
“[Liverpool have] a phenomenal forward like Florian Wirtz, doubters will be silenced if spoken against. A remarkable prospect. The French striker, excellent performer. This is a well-built thoughtfully assembled roster. Fans shouldn't fret about Liverpool, things will improve.”
The manager expressed deep feeling on the loss of the Portuguese star, whom he brought in during his tenure, along with the consequences on Liverpool. Jota lost his life in a road accident alongside his brother recently.
“Who can fill the void of a person like him? It’s not about his on-field talent, it’s the guy he was. I struggle to conceive the team environment missing him. Putting it into words is tough regarding this. A profound tragedy for the entire squad as well. Not a single person will ever use it as an excuse yet it's the reality. Entering the changing area which he filled completely. Dealing with that individually is difficult. Unbearable.”
