Slot Asserts He Is Safe and Has Liverpool's Backing Following PSV Eindhoven Loss

The Liverpool head coach admitted that it was natural for doubts to be asked about his future after another heavy loss versus the Dutch champions.

Liverpool endured their ninth loss in 12 matches, marking the team's worst streak after being relegated in 1953-54.

They were taken apart by the Eredivisie champions on a difficult evening at their home ground.

“I'm confident, I am OK, I have got plenty of backing from above,” the coach stated.

“It would be great to change things and secure a win naturally but if you are in a managerial role and underperforming then it is normal that people question you.”

He added, “I accept my position. This isn't the first time I've found myself in a difficult position but it is about time that we turned it around.”

Talks with Liverpool Hierarchy

Upon being questioned to elaborate on his conversations with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach explained:

“We talk a lot. They assist for the squad and to me and we have those conversations but they aren't calling me all the time each day to say they have faith in me.”

He further stated, “During our regular discussions I sense the belief. However I've not talked to them since this game so far so let’s see.”

Recurring Problems and Squad Response

Slot highlighted familiar weaknesses from his team in their Champions League defeat, specifically poor finishing and conceding too easily.

Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was blunter in his evaluation of the team's situation.

“I don’t have the answers. Frankly, I do not. I’m saying that to everyone,” Jones said.

“It's simply unacceptable. I don’t even need to wait to reflect. I’m past being angry inside. I’m at the point currently where I simply lack the words.”

He went on, “It’s hard because I play for the club I love. I’m a fan, and I've watched this club all my life.”

“For many years, I've not seen a Reds side experiencing a phase such as this with results like these.”

Jones finished, “But we still have that badge on our chest. And until it is removed, we’re always going to fight.”

“Our aim is to help the side return to its rightful place, prove again the values of this club and why it's known as the greatest side in the world.”

“At this moment, we’re in the shit and we have to turn it around.”
