Vince Zampella, who helped create the wildly popular first-person shooter Call of Duty, has died in a car accident in the state of California aged 55.
The tragic news was confirmed by Electronic Arts, the publisher that controls Respawn Entertainment, the development studio he co-founded.
The celebrated game designer lost his life when his vehicle was involved in a crash and burst into flames on a motorway in Los Angeles on this past Sunday, US media outlets report.
"This represents an unimaginable loss, and our deepest sympathies go to Vince's loved ones, his family, and all those touched by his legacy," a representative from Electronic Arts said.
