The Details Known Concerning the Victims of the Bondi Beach Terrorist Incident

A minimum of 16 people perished and more than 40 were hurt when gunmen shot at a Hanukah gathering at Bondi Beach, an attack Australian police have labeled a terrorist attack.

As of the newest reports, officials have announced the number of fatalities is 16, which includes one of the suspected gunmen. Furthermore, 42 wounded individuals were transported to hospital.

The deceased are still awaiting publicly named, but police believe their ages range between 10 and 87 years of age.

Eli Schlanger

London-born clergyman Eli Schlanger, 41, was the first victim to be named.

Known as a father-of-five, he was the associate rabbi at a local Jewish cultural centre. Relatives and friends described him as “vivacious, energetic, full of life and a very kind and sociable person who loved to help people”.

“How is it possible that a happy rabbi who went to a beach to share joy and positivity, to make the world a better place, meet his end in this way?” a relative remarked.

Schlanger and his wife celebrated the birth of their youngest child in October.

Alexander Kleytman

Alexander Kleytman was also confirmed among the deceased, as stated by his wife.

She described the moments before the attack, explaining they had been standing together when the shooting began. “He shielded me because he wished to be near me,” she said.

The couple were both survivors of the Holocaust, having endured unspeakable terror in their youth. They had later immigrated to Australia from Ukraine.

Dan Elkayam

The French authorities have confirmed that French national Dan Elkayam is among the dead.

Publicly, a senior official said that France mourned with his family and loved ones, the Jewish community, and the Australian people.

“This low act is a fresh and tragic example of a disgusting rise of hatred against Jews that we must combat,” the message read.

One Child

A child who was rushed to the a children's hospital is among those who had died, authorities stated.

One Israeli Citizen

One victim from Israel was among those killed during the attack, according to multiple sources referencing the Israeli government.

Those Injured

Of the 42 people taken to hospital, many remain under care, with several in a critical state. Those hurt comprise two officers who attended the scene.

A casualty is a bystander who attempted to intervene to confront one of the attackers. Described as a local hero, he sustained bullet wounds but is expected to recover in hospital.

Arsen Ostrovsky

One of those wounded is Arsen Ostrovsky, a human rights lawyer. Reports indicate he was injured and underwent treatment in hospital.

Communicating, he recounted the incident as an “utter carnage,” but also praised the response of those who came to assist. He stated he felt it was a “stroke of luck” he was alive.

Evan Zlatkis

Evan Zlatkis, a media director, was also injured in the attack. He described he listened to “a large number” of shots.

“I thought it was something less lethal, but it’s gone into my own skin and into my leg,” he stated. “I sustained a gunshot wound. I received first aid. I’m ok.”
